The Storm Rolls In

(Topsail Beach, NC)

The sun shines down upon us playing at the beach.  Waves dance merrily against our shins as we jump and play.  Happiness radiates from our souls as we delight in our union.  Life couldn't be better.

The seas become calm as the sun warms our skin just enough where we feel completely comfortable.  We walk together, hand in hand sharing our ideas while taking in the beauty of our environment.  Our dream of heaven would be an eternity spent just like this.  Peaceful.  Fulfilling.

The wind picks up as clouds begin to block the radiant sunshine we were enjoying.  Our walk down the beach becomes more of a challenge in the wind causing us to drop our hands to make it through.  There is a chill in the air that only disappears when we glance at each other, bringing us a warmth of remembrance and courage to keep on walking.

The storm rolls in with a vengeance, shattering our version of eternity.  Although aware of the breeze on our walk, the violent storm seemed sudden.  The thunder boomed as the rain turned into a downpour and we begin to run.  In one single strike of lightning, we lose each other.  Alone, freezing and scared we both desperately search for the warmth of the sunshine.

The rain ends as the clouds begin to part allowing sunshine to peak through.  Waves begin to subside revealing the storms destruction.  There is nothing left to do but to keep walking, clean up the damage and before long we find each other.

The seas are calm, the sun is warm yet the wake of the storm has left us feeling uncomfortable.  The landscape of the beach is now unfamiliar.  Where once a peaceful place where our hearts were fulfilled was now a new frontier.  We grab hands seeking the warmth we once shared.  Staring into each others eyes we must now decide which way to walk.

This post inspired by a dear friend going through some very hard times right now.

I'm participating in Pour Your Heart Out Wednesday.  Check it out for lots of great reads!
